Getting to Know Trinity Students and Workers

HISP 224: Spanish for Heritage Speakers is a class designed especially for Latino students at Trinity who grew up in the U.S. speaking Spanish at home and English at school. The class helps them to learn formal grammar, polish their written Spanish, and understand oral and written traditions in their heritage language. One of their assignments is to seek out and interview one of the many Latino employees that are essential to the daily workings of campus. Many students don’t realize just how many 100′s of employees there are here of Latino background, in part because many work outside their daily view, in office buildings, in the police force, in laboratories, etc.

In yet another assignment, 224 students survey other Latino students on campus, both national and international, to learn about their personal and intellectual experiences at the college and in the world. Here is a sampling of their conversations.
